Not enough hours in the day?
All Not for Profit organisations must deal with a pattern of peaks and troughs in their workload. Whether your organisation is big or small, this can pose a real problem.
For instance, when your subscriptions or donations follow a seasonal or annual pattern, you face a choice: do you take on the expense of temporary staff to cope with the peak? Do you choose to run with surplus capacity? Or do you just try to get through the rush and risk compromising service? Your budget and the demands of service are putting you between a rock and a hard place.

But itís not just managing subscriptions that can sap resources. What about all those other projects? Conducting research with your members can enhance your databases and help you target your efforts more effectively, but sending and processing questionnaires costs money and adds to your workload. Even sending out mailers requires a great deal of work Ė which could of course be alleviated by specialist equipment; but perhaps you donít send enough mailers to justify the purchase cost of that machinery, and hiring extra staff is an expense you canít afford.
